Hidden in the basement of the C building is the beginning of a new program that could expand to national prominence, recruiting potential students on the strengths of its curriculum and professional environment.

Students within the department will gain invaluable experience that will launch their careers, giving them better advantages compared to students not associated with a premiere college radio station.

These are the common goals for members of Lancer Radio, but when their vision is realized, it will be largely due to the sacrifice and dedication of one student in particular: station programmer Valentino Rivera.

Rivera, 22, has put his personal ambitions on hold in order to see Lancer Radio succeed, not only as radio station but a fully functional training ground for future radio personalities and technicians.

"It's all about helping students become as prepared as possible, giving them as much knowledge as I can before they go on," said Rivera.
